Kristy Larkin, L.C.S.W.

I am a social worker specializing in the treatment of trauma. Many of those struggling with trauma also wrestle with difficulties surrounding trust and safety. The safety of my office has been and continues to be a place of refuge for many which allowing us to build the therapeutic relationship together. This relationship will serve as the vehicle for you to learn how to rebuild and repair your ability to trust yourself and others. With you as the client, I will guide you through the process of setting yourself free from the damaging and lasting effects of trauma.

Many of those who struggle with trauma also struggle with what is called attachment. This refers to the ways in which we relate and establish connections with others. Often times family of origin issues arise here. These struggles are frequently patterned after the relationships we had during childhood. We are taught how to be in relationships from the early relationships we shared with those around us. When one relationship after another goes wrong, it usually stems from being taught an unhealthy way of relating to those we share relationships with. Together we will examine what you learned about being in relationships, how what you learned is impacting you now and how to correct it.

Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, anger, aggression, passiveness, grief, loneliness, feelings of helplessness and powerlessness, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and addictions can also be the product of trauma or unhealthy family of origin relationships. However these are not always directly linked to trauma or relationships. Whatever the reason you are struggling with these issues, we can work on them together.

I have been trained in play therapy, crisis intervention, group and family counseling, trauma and attachment treatment, grief counseling, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and many others. In addition to my training, I have worked with individuals struggling with issues surrounding domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse and rape, other forms of child abuse, bullying, auto accidents, foster care and adoption, attachment, addictions, family of origin and relationship issues. Together, I can help you find peace and healing with whatever your individual trauma may be. I work with adults, children, teens, individuals, families and groups.

I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work and a current license in the State of Georgia. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Weber State University in 2008 and then went on to obtain my Master’s degree from Walla Walla University in 2009. My educational journey did not stop there. In 2010 I began working on a Ph.D. in Counseling Studies through Capella University and I anticipate graduating by the end of 2014.

I have one child and a dog who keep me busy outside of the office. In addition to spending time with them I enjoy Martial Arts, Zumba, reading, selling make-up on-line, getting pampered through a massage, being outside and learning something knew.

If you feel that I might be able to assist you with something in your life, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing your story.
